More than just a space to work…

10 Aug 10 CoWorking Desks available in North Melbourne!

As many of you have intimated, my personal plans for a space have been put on hold due to a number of factors. That said, I do have a friend who has a nicely fitted out office and is looking for people to rent desks on a month-by-month basis. It’s not the same combination of community & space planned for an eventual CoWorking Melbourne site, but it is in North Melbourne and may suit some of you. If you are interested, see the details and photos below.

I work as a corporate advisor in North Melbourne and have 3 extra desks available after I sold one of my businesses that rented space with me.

The space is very well kept and has lots to offer. It has a New York vibe to it and steers well clear of the standard clinical offices spaces.

The space is on the 3rd floor with great views of the Melb CBD.
It is 70 sq / mtrs. 8 Minute walk from Nth Melb Train Station and 1 minute walk to 57 Tram stop where trams come every 6 minutes.

There is a 6 person board table for meetings within the office and another 2 private meeting rooms on the ground level.

All desks are brand new which are thick red wood desks (no ikea stuff!) and come with comfortable (and expensive) leather chairs.
There is a shared kitchen on the level and also toilet facilities.
There is also an underground car park so you can park your car there and not get any fines.
We have full high speed internet access and also phone / fax system.
Have a look at the photo attached and please contact me if interested.

14 May 09 Community Working

Coworking is a great word. It’s got instant gravitas. It gets people thinking. But inevitably the comparisons are drawn and the conversation becomes ‘So, it’s just like a serviced office then?’. I can hear the collective sigh as coworking community members scream out in virtual pain. If coworking is anything, it is ‘community working’. You’d be hard-pressed to find any community (let alone natural light or fresh air!) in a serviced office.

I strongly believe that in order for a coworking facility/space/service (all such boring corporate words) to be successful, it needs to start and end with community. I want this site to engage a tribe; to fire up those passions and craft a better world for ourselves. There’s so much theory behind coworking from an economic perspective, and just as much again on actually running a space. To me, those things are straight-forward; boring almost. From an administration perspective, it’s 21st century micro property development. Boring! The interesting part is envisaging the possibilities of what we, together as a community, can accomplish.

Coworking could spark new ideas in your own business.  It could forge new partnerships. It could improve productivity and happiness. It could help you achieve work/life balance whilst still pursuing your dreams. It enables previously unviable business plans to leap from the page. It turns a coffee addiction into a social addiction. It is what you want it to be. But behind every one of these thoughts, dreams and ideals is the common thread of community. Without it, it’s just space… nothingness.

21 Apr 09 Welcome to CoWorking Melbourne

Welcome! CoWorking Melbourne is now live with the rough sketchings of what will turn out to be an exciting new way to work. This site is currently highly ‘alpha’, but we’ll be adding to it over time to bring more value to you.

Our initial intent in launching this site is to guage the level of community interest in coworking, and build a space around that community. If you’re interested in coworking at all, and particularly in Melbourne, then please leave a comment, subscribe to this blog and visit our pledge page so we can keep in contact with you about this exciting new development.

Regards,
